Come all ye merry gentlemen and women to the Third Annual Verdigre Vánoce celebration! With the Christmas decorations up (thanks to the NCPPD crew and village employee Willie Bonasek) and the town’s Christmas tree up and being decorated (thanks to Marvin Soucek, Loren McCormick and others filled with Christmas cheer), our little village is settling into the warmth of the season.

The Third Annual Verdigre Vánoc eis this Saturday, Dec. 7, and will help us get into the mood even more.

Some events you won’t want to miss include: a soup supper at the Legion Building hosted by the CARE after-school program; the Festival of Trees at the hall is being held in memory of Denise Frederick who participated in the past two years’ Vánoce; and the one-act play at school as soon as events are over on Main Street (around 8:30).

Something new to Vánoce this year is caroling! Join the carolers aboard Dan Rohrer’s hay wagon as it travels the streets of Verdigre and pauses at special places along the way. (No practices required!) Caroling will begin at 5:30 and run until 7:30, stopping every 20 minutes or so to pick up/drop off carolers. The location for the picking up/dropping off is at The Verdigre Eagle, who will provide free coffee and hot chocolate to carolers.

Businesses having open house include Hardware Hank where Santa will be from 7-8:00 and the drawings at 8 p.m. – BE THERE; Pinnacle Bank where finger foods will be served, prizes given and a $100 gift certificate to Hardware Hanks will be presented to some lucky winner at the hall; Vesely Massage Therapy from 5:30-7:30 p.m.; Vintage Rays; The Verdigre Eagle; and Country Creations (get your free popcorn).

Businesses who will be located at the hall will include Vakoc Construction, Gutshall Blumenstock Eye Clinic; Music Boosters’ Silent Auction; UMYF Greenery Sales; Country Christmas Crafts; Tastefully Simple; D. J. Dazzle; Janet’s Quilts & Crafts; Close-up Bake Sale; Trees on stage for contest (in memory of Denise Frederick); Handicrafts by Pat (Cihlar); Mary Kay; Improvement Club; Cupcake Wars; and Herbert Feed & Grain.

Drawings at the hall will also bring prizes from the Village of Verdigre, Alpine Village, theVerdigre Rescue Squad (HDX Kindle Fire) and Dr. Ken Tusha’s office.

The anticipation builds as we look forward to another “homey, small-town Christmas get together to celebrate the birthday of the Christ-Child.”
