VHS senior and N-V Cougar wrestler Chase Ruzicka, son of Scott and Heidi Ruzicka of Verdigre, took fourth place at the February 12-13 District Wrestling Tournament in Tilden, qualifying him for state competition. Wrestling at 285 pounds, Chase received a bye in the first round and then pinned Reed Schaefer of Lutheran High Northeast in the quarterfinal. He lost by fall to Devin Soll, 40-4, of Pender in the semifinal and pinned Jade Buss of West Holt in the consolation semifinal to secure his spot to state.

A Wednesday, February 17, pep rally was held in honor of all of the N-V Cougar wrestlers and to wish Chase good luck in Omaha. The state wrestling tournament begins Thursday, February 18, and goes through Saturday.

Congratulations to Chase Ruzicka, the first-ever N-V Cougar wrestling state qualifier!
